NOTICE:

In 2006 Alaska State Parks raised the fees they charge Tippecanoe.  The fee is called a Per Craft Fee, it is a per boat per day usage fee.   We can no longer absorb this cost without raising our prices so it will now be added on to each rental as a separate charge of $2/boat/day.  This fee stays in Nancy Lake Rec Area to help maintain this beautiful area. 

LOCATIONS

Red Shirt Lake

  Red Shirt Lake is the most popular destination for Pike fishermen in the Nancy Lake Recreation Area.

The lake is over 3 miles long by 3/4 mile wide, with many shallow grassy areas.

Catches up to 54 inches have been reported, however fish around 30 inches are more common.

  Red Shirt Lake and our canoes are located at the end of a three mile trail.  You must contact and visit Tippecanoe to get the necessary equipment before hiking to Red Shirt lake .

State Parks has four public use cabins for rent on the lake.  Two Cabins are located on islands, two are on the shoreline.  Arrangements for these cabins are made through Alaska State Parks.

More remote than other lakes in the Recreation Area there are only two ways to get there, fly or hike.

Canoe Trail System

The system includes what is commonly called the Lynx Lake Loop of about 8 miles. The Loop consists of 14 lakes and ponds interconnected by maintained portage trails marked with orange signs.

The trails are composed of native soils with exposed root systems.  Most low wet areas have boardwalks and there are wooden landings at some of the lakes.

The longest portage is approximately a quarter of a mile long.  Our required EZ-Portage devices make portaging much easier.  For important tips go to our FAQ page

South Rolly Lake

A nice quiet lake with a 99 unit campground.  A great place for families and first time paddlers.  Trout and Northern Pike fishing.  Kayaks are available as well as canoes on this lake.  Rentals at S. Rolly Lake are first come first served but please feel free to call ahead for office hours or availability.

Bald Lake

Bald Lake is a small lake with a State Parks Public Use Cabin on it.  We have a canoe available for the renters of that cabin.  Please contact us ahead of time for pricing and a reservation time.
